Basic information about island Krapanj

Island Krapanj is the lowest inhabited island in the world. It is only 1.5 meter high, and less than 300 meters away from the mainland. It is an  picturesque island with narrow alleys and stone houses. Krapanj inhabitants are famous for tradition in sea sponge diving, so on the island can be found a couple of sponge exibitions, which also can be purchased. Island Krapanj is suitable for all the people that like quiet vacation, but also being close to bigger centres. Museums and exibitions in island Krapanj

St Križ monastery with church from 16th century – the monastery keeps a lot of valuable pieces, the most important of which are The last dinner of Christ (16th century) and Black Madonna on a throne (rennaisance). The library of the monastery keeps an example of a Bible from 15th century. The part of the monastery is also a small museum that contains a collection of sponges, amforas, corals and antic dishes.
